From Iron Rails to Vineyard Trails: O'Keefe Wines, a Tribute to Pioneering Spirit.

Pioneer Andrew O'Keefe migrated to Victoria's goldfields from Ireland, finding his fortune in unique iron railways and bridges. In 1888 O'Keefe's own locomotive pulled the very first passenger train from Sandhurst to Heathcote. The Heathcote line originally ran passenger series as well as transporting local supplies to the gold mines in Bendigo. Our wine is a tribute to the many early pioneers who built the historic railways and helped to unite Australia's many township and people.

O'Keefe Legacy: Pioneering Spirit, Terroir, and Craftsmanship in Every Bottle

  • Pioneering Heritage

Andrew O'Keefe migrated from Ireland to Victoria's goldfields, where he established himself in iron railways and bridges. In 1888, his locomotive inaugurated the first passenger train from Sandhurst to Heathcote, with the Heathcote line serving both passengers and supplying gold mines in Bendigo, symbolizing unity among Australia's townships.

  • Vineyard Terroir

The wine is sourced from a single vineyard near Heathcote, adjacent to the O’Keefe Rail Trail, facing northeast and sloping gently on ancient Cambrian soils. The fruit is machine-picked, de-stemmed, and fermented with 20% whole punch, then aged in a blend of American and French oak.

  • Winemaking Approach

A focus on preserving fruit concentration guided the use of both new and old American and French oak, resulting in a wine that reflects the unique terroir and heritage, paying homage to the early pioneers and the O'Keefe legacy.
